Orienteering with Geoff.

On Monday the 23 of August Geoff came and taught us how to use a compass in the bush. First we made a big compass on the ground with chalk and cones and we had to mark out all the place’s like North, East, South and West and we had to work out how many degrees puke hill was from the tennis court.
Next he set up a course around the school for us to work out how to get around the school with our compasses. We were split into groups of three. And he had set out markers which were blue plates with where to walk next and a letter to help us spell the word, the question was: What do Elephants like to play? The answer was: Squash! My group and me were the second ones to get it.
After all of that, we went inside and he showed us a couple of things. He showed us a thing to help read metres; it is called a ‘Hip Chain’ and there was another GPS it was really cool.
Thanks to T.A.S for letting us borrow some of their compasses.
